“New touristic routes to discover Western Greece and Puglia”

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece is organizing the final online conference of the cross-border cooperation project: P.A.T.H.: «Promoting Area Attractiveness through Hiking and Introducing a Different Touristic Approach», which is implemented and funded in the framework of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme INTERREG Greece-Italy 2014 – 2020.
The Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with one Greek partner, the Region of Western Greece and three Italian partners, the Construction Technologies Institute – National Research Council of Italy, the Regional Nature Reserves of the Eastern Coast of Taranto and the National Park of Alta Murgia.
P.A.T.H project is introducing newly developed digital tools for the promotion of thematic routes in Greece and Puglia. Hiking routes, mountain trails, wetland and coastal routes, historical and cultural paths, urban and rural routes in the Region of Western Greece, the Regional Nature Reserves of the Eastern Coast of Taranto and the National Park of Alta Murgia are enhanced through an integrated web-based multimedia platform. Aim of the project was to provide visitors in the Region of Western Greece and Puglia the chance to discover digitally more than 1.500 points of interest and more than 47 thematic routes. The web-based platform enables visitors to select their preferred routes for hiking or driving, along with a map of main cultural and natural attractions.
Among the main achievements of P.A.T.H. project was the definition of accessible routes for the disabled, the involvement of local stakeholders through targeted events and the implementation of student contests in Greece and Italy. Student contests aimed at the enhancement of three points of interest (2 in Italy and 1 in Greece) promoted by the introduction of a new crowdfunding tool.
The results of project P.A.T.H will be presented during the final online conference that will be held on Monday 29th of March 2021 at 11:00 (Greek Time). The event will be broadcasted live through the project Facebook page and on YouTube.
