LB REGIONAL UNION OF MUNICIPALITIES OF WESTERN GREECE

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece is the continuation of the individual Local and Municipal Union Associations of the three Prefectures of the Western Greece – Aitoloakarnania, Achaia, Ilia. It operates at a regional level and is based in Patra. It has decentralized offices in Mesolongi and Pyrgos as well in order to meet local needs. Members of the organisation are the 19 Municipalities of the Region of Western Greece. Its main objectives are to ensure cooperation among the municipalities of the Region, to support local government authorities, to carry out research and study of issues concerning the local governance and promote specific issues related to the mission and actions of the Municipalities of Western Greece.

PB2 REGION OF WESTER GREECE

Western Greece is one of the thirteen regions of Greece. It comprises the western part of continental Greece and the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The region is based at Patras and is divided into three regional units (pre- prefectures), Aetolia-Acarnania in Central Greece and Achaia and Ilia in the Peloponnese. The Regional Authority of Western Greece, is a second level public administration body with more than 900 employees, spread in 22 Directorates.

PB3 CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES INSTITUTE- NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL OF ITALY (BARI BRANCH)

The Construction Technologies Institute (ITC) is a scientific facility of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), mainly active in the civil engineering sector. ITC is a multidisciplinary organization headquartered in San Giuliano Milanese (Milan) with local offices in Bari, L’Aquila, Padua and Naples. The activities carried out at the ITC Bari branch are mainly focused on the new methods implemented in order to analyze and enhance the built environment as well as the cultural and architectural heritage, related to innovative survey methodologies aimed at the creation of digital models of the built heritage and of virtual tours. It is also committed to the implementation of local information systems available for online consultation, in order to enhance the environmental and architectural heritage.

PB4 REGIONAL NATURE RESERVES OF THE EASTERN COAST OF TARANTO

The Nature Reserves of the Eastern Coast of Taranto was established with regional law N.24 of 23/12/2002. It is made up of 4 protected areas: the Salina dei Monaci, connected to the sea by means of a canal, the Palude del Conte, a wetland located behind the dunes and created as a result of underground water emergence, the Cuturi and Rose Woods Marina and the mouth of the river Chidro.

PB5 ALTA MURGIA NATIONAL PARK

The Management body of the Alta Murgia National Park was established with Presidential Decree of 10 March 2004. The Park covers an area of 68 077 ha, all included in the PSIC / SPA Murgia Alta, divided into three zones with different protection. Zone 1 – the natural interest, scenic, historical and cultural landscape characterized by prevailing “steppe” and rupicolo; Zone 2 – the natural value, landscape and cultural history, characterized by the prevailing agricultural landscape; Zone 3 – ecological connection and promotion of economic activities compatible with the aims of the park.
